Craig Kirkman has staked a claim to being Liberty's favorite son. If seven years of being a world champion skeet shooter does not quality him, then he will probably just win seven more, to be sure, that is.
"There were 1151 competitors in all classes at the World Championships in San Antonio, held October 16-21," his mother, Margie Kirkman said the day after they returned home. "In the doubles, there were 14 people that broke a hundred straight skeets. Craig had to go into the 3rd round of shoot-offs before he won."
In the 20-gauge competition, Craig was one of 128 competitors who broke 100 straight targets. In the fourth round of shot- off for that competition, Craig missed and finished second in that event.
Not to make excuses, but Margie said it rained "profusely" while Craig was shooting.
Craig also paired with a military shooter in a military-civilian team. They broke an existing world record as a team.
Craig also was presented two High Average Leader awards. He missed only 9 out of 1300 targets in the 20-gauge competition all last year.
